Haven’t had much time to post since starting the Veggie Clubs and Farmer’s Market. Everyone is wanting fresh vegetables after the winter lull. We were hit by hail and a “gully-washer” of rain Saturday night, which will set some of our crops back a bit. The rain uncovered our potato plants in spots, so we were forced to gather some a little early. It’s hard to beat those fresh-tasting ‘taters in butter & parsley, or in a good gravy with our fresh carrots, too!
This is GREENS SEASON, so enjoy them while they’re here. Once really hot weather comes, we won’t have them again till the Fall season. That’s the rhythm and beauty of eating seasonal. You cook and enjoy the things that are coming in during a given season, learn to be creative in preparing them in lots of different ways, and then it’s over, and something new comes in to take its place, and you start all over learning how to be creative with it. We still have room in our Veggie Clubs, and we are at the Lawton Farmers Market (off Sheridan Rd. at the County Fairgrounds) every Saturday morning. Come enjoy the Spring harvest!
